What I Have Been Buying Lately: My Trip to the Big Sports Card & Memorabilia Show at the Mansfield Holiday Inn, May 27, 2014

It's been awhile since I've explained why I've bought what I've bought, so here's a quick explanation of some of the cards that you see.

On the right is a 2007 Upper Deck Goudey Sport Royalty Tiger Woods Mini. Sport Royalty cards were box-toppers that were inserted at a rate of one-per-hobby box in 2007 Goudey and mini cards were even rarer. The card was in a case with 60-120 written on it and it was explained to me by the seller that the base Tiger Woods' Sport Royalty card was had a book value of $60 and that the mini version had a book value of $120. While I have yet to confirm either price, the only copy on eBay (Graded 9.5) is listed for $266.00 or Best Offer.

(Update on 5/27: I located two more copies of this card (mislabeled as Tim Worrell) on Check Out My Cards. One has mild damage to the top and surface of the card and is listed for $35.25 and another is in NM/MT condition and is listed for $109.25.)

I paid $15 combined for that Tiger card and the 2006/07 In the Game Ultimate Memorabilia Gloves are Off Eddie Shore card seen below. Eddie Shore was a member of the Boston Bruins from 1926 until 1940 and is a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame. I have been trying to collect autographs and game-used cards from Bruins legends, but since Shore died in 1985 his autographs are rare and, as a result, expensive. As it is, I was lucky to get this game-used card for so cheap, as similar cards are listed for between $45 and $75 on eBay.

This Derek Jeter card is certainly unique for also feauting a Jeff Cirillo name label and for being miscut. I've been unable to find another card like it on eBay and a few Jeter collectors that I've shared it with have told me that they've never seen one like it before. I'll do some research before I decide what to do with it.

I purchased all of the above refractors, parallels, and base cards for 10 cents each and the Chris Sale jersey card for only 50 cents. I'm a fan of the look of blue refractors and they always make good trade bait for player and team collectors. The Clayton Kershaw card is numbered to 99 and I've recently started a Ken Griffey, Jr. "Promotional Use Only" collection, so I was happy to add that card to my collection.

There are a few cards of note in this group. First, I purchased the Joc Pederson 2010 Donruss Elite Extra Edition card for 10 cents, which is significantly cheaper than the $14.99 being asked for the same card on COMC.com. Next, there are two nice cards of Michael Jordan playing baseball, which are always fun. Then I found a Josh Booty (MLB stats, College Football stats) autograph for 50 cents to add to my multi-sport athlete collection.

Manny Machado Topps and Bowman rookie cards for 10 cents each? Scooping these up was a no-brainer as far as I am concerned.

Here I found cards of Attleboro Little World Series participants Rogers Hornsby, Pie Traynor, Jim Thorpe, Babe Ruth, George Sisler, and Walter Johnson for 10 cents each. The Jim Thorpe cards are numbered to 1000 and I really like the look of the Hornsby card numbered to 99.
