A morning saunter set us up for the day. Blue skies again, although rather a snippy wind as we wandered around Queen's Valley reservoir and then some country lanes in a circuit back to the car. Part way round we skirted on the edge of Gorey village. Along a lane full of flowering camellias, of all shades and past a rather festive post box.
An afternoon spent pottering in the kitchen doing an assortment of jobs. Feeding the Christmas cake and putting new wicks into old candles. I hate it when the wick runs out before the candle so I put the tin in a saucepan of gently simmering water, wait until it melts, remove the old wick and place in a new one. Sadly I had a bit of an oops as I poured a second tin of wax into another tin. Somehow I managed to spill wax over the counter top and up onto my material bound copy of Nigel slater's Christmas Chronicles. It dried instantly and then I spent a fair while scraping off the wax and ironing the cover of my recipe book with kitchen paper to soak up the wax.
Another cupboard tidied as well. This time the tins, jars and naughty treats. I'm always reminded of the Julia Roberts film 'Sleeping With The Enemy' when I see well ordered tins in a cupboard. In the film she escaped from a psychotic husband by pretending to drown herself and creating a new identity. She knew all was not well when she came home one day to find her tin cupboard manically tidied, something her husband always did. I'll tell you no more as I wouldn't want to spoil the film, which is well worth a watch. One thing I realised is that I need to stock up, so my shopping list has been added to.
My calming advent square today is one of my favourites called Industrial Kingfisher. Lots of colours I love. It helped me forget that today we can no longer mix households indoors, except for Christmas day and Boxing day. The numbers continue to rise alarmingly.
Hopefully you have been able to forget all the problems and enjoy the day. Anything festive to share ?
